Upgradation of Jufal airport benefits Dolpa apple growers

krishilogoDolpa, Sept 27: Upgradation of Jufal Airport, the only means of transportation in Dolpa, has benefited apple growers in various ways. In the past, the farmers of the district without connection to national road networks, used to see their production of apples rotten in trees or store due to lack of the market and road networks.

However, the apple farmers are a happy lot now as they are finding it easier to supply their produce to the market as a result of the upgradation of the airport lately. An airplane company said that with the upgradation, a flight carries at least 400 kilogrames apples to the market on a daily basis. The company added that more than four twin otter planes have been ferrying the production on a daily basis from the third week of August. Local farmer Purna Dangi said that with the upgradation, an environment has been created for the farmers to make earnings through the sale of their produce.
Another apple grower Sridal Buda said that the production is supplied to districts and cities like Nepalgunj, Dang, Surkhet and Rukum. He said that one kilograme apple is priced at Rs 30 to Rs 40 in local market while the same amount cost Rs 100 to Rs 150 in the market out of Dolpa. Apple farming is main income source of the people of the district after Yarchagumba (Cordyceps sinensis).
