Farmers attracted towards tea farming

krishilogoTaplejung, Oct. 2: With the establishment of a tea processing centre in Taplejung, more farmers in the district have opted for tea farming of late. The folks, who have been growing cardamom, have also started production of the tea in the areas that have low productivity of cardamom. The Pathibhara Tea Producers Cooperative has recently established a tea processing centre near the district headquarters in Hangdewa VDC.

Besides expansion of the tea areas, the farmers have also started the tea nursery in the villages. The farmers were searching for the alternatives to the cardamom production due to different disease in the cardamom plants. Chairman of the tea processing centre, Bidur Bhattarai, said that the farmers are preparing to plant the tea saplings in up to 100 ropani of land. With the interests of the locals in the tea farming, different organisations have also started to provide trainings on tea farming management to the farmers.
