Gulariya (Bardiya), March 2: The rainfall accompanied with hailstone occurring incessantly for two days here has damaged the vegetable and lentil grown in several VDCs. According to the District Agriculture Office, Bardiya, the vegetables and lentils grown at Gola, Shibapur, Suryapatuwa, Thakurdwara, Neulapur VDCs and Gulariya municipality have been damaged with hailstone.
Agronomist at the Office, Binod Gyawali, said although the rain is very beneficial to the wheat farming, it has turned deleterious to the vegetable and legumes. He added that although no exact data on the damage was received, the rainfall with hailstone damaged almost half of the vegetables grown in three hectares of land and the legumes in 18 hectares. Meanwhile, he informed that the number of the farmers have begun farming insurance, which have encouraged them for growing vegetable and other cash crops side by side.
