NARC itself needs research, says Agriculture Minister

Bharatpur : Minister for Agriculture and Livestock Development Chakrapani Khanal has spoken of the need of carrying out a research about the National Agricultural Research Centre (NARC) itself.
Speaking at a discussion programme following his inspection today to the National Maize Research Programme run by NARC at Rampur of Chitwan, the minister said a study of the NARC was essential to find out why Nepal’s agricultural scientists are leaving the country and find a solution to the issue.
“Performance of Nepal’s scientists was in leading position in the entire SAARC region in the past and now time has come to find out how this legacy got interrupted.”
It should be found out whether the State policy or experiences and competency of scientists or an atmosphere at home prompted such valuable human resources to leave the country. He said he did not want to put any sort of blame against the NARC, however, but was in favour of determining the causes hampering expected progress in the agricultural sector.
Research in modern agricultural system and linking farmers with technology
by NARC would help promote the sector, the Agriculture Minister insisted.
Mitra Raj Dawadi, Kishor Dahal and Bharatpur metropolis mayor Renu Dahal said despite the implementation of scientific measures in agriculture, expected results remained unmet. NARC executive director Dr Tek Bahadur Gurung appraised the gathering about latest agricultural technology practiced by Nepal.
