1,800 quintals food grain buried under rubble in Okhaldhunga

Biratnagar, May 21: Some 1,800 quintals of food grain stocked in the houses of the local farmers in Okhaldhunga is learnt to have been buried in the rubble of the houses destroyed by the April 25 quake. The food grains including maize, millet, rice and potatoes among others of as much as 20,000 farmers were buried under the debris in 25 VDCs in the district, according to the Agriculture Development Office, Okhaldhunga.

In addition, the maize and potato planted on 1,000 hectares of the district’s land were also destroyed by the recent rainfall accompanied by hailstone, shared Kul Prasad Adhikari, Chief of the Agriculture Office, Okhaldhunga. A majority of the houses in Harkapur, Baruneshwar, Khijit, Patle, Katunje and the like in the district sustained damages.
