Biratnagar, April 12: The Sugarcane Farmers’ Struggle Committee Morang today sent a memorandum through the District Administration Office, Morang to the Prime Minister, putting forth nine-point demands, including an increment in the sugarcane price.
The memo undersigned by committee coordinator Indrahari Upadhyaya calls for fixing the price of sugarcane at Rs 535 per quantal, distributing Rs 400 in advance until the price is determined, making the payment within 15 days of the weighing of the sugarcane and making provision for bank guarantee and insurance of the sugarcane plantation, among others.
Before handing over the memorandum to the District Administration Office, the sugarcane farmers had made a round of the Biratnagar town chanting slogans calling for increasing the sugarcane price.
