Govt. to provide land for commercial farming

Ratnanagar, Chitwan, Sept. 30: The Government of Nepal is to provide rent amount of land needed to farmers for commercial farming on lease from this year.Minister of Agriculture Hari Parajuli informed that this programme will be enforced from this year. Talking to journalists in Chitwan today, he said preparations have been made for the same, and notice will be issued very soon. The government has   allocated Rs. 30 million for this, he informed. On one hand, the government will provide lease amount when taking land on lease, they will also be provided Rs. 32,000 to Rs.100,000 in grant as seed money for farming of their choice, said Minister Parajuli.

          So far we have subsistence farming in Nepal and there is a need to make agriculture commercial, said Parajuli, adding the government was serious on it. He also informed that the government has allocated Rs. 970 million for agriculture grant under the youth targeted programme, Rs. 30 million for income generation of the marginalized communities with land rent amount and Rs. one billion for exemption of interests.The minister also informed that his ministry has a target of making 10,000 youths self-employed who want to undertake commercial agriculture after returning from foreign jobs and those who are seeking foreign jobs this year.
