3,200 mt food grains deficit in darchula

Gokuleswor, Darchula, Oct. 22: Darchula district has a food deficit of 3,200 metric tonnes annually, the District Agriculture Development Office Darchula said.Food grains production has come down annually in the district due to displacement from agriculture, lack of irrigation facilities, lack of use of hybrid seeds, and lack of development of modern agriculture system, the Office said. Besides this, there is insufficient land for the rising population, resulting in insecurity in terms of food grains in the district. In latest times, the government has arranged grant for attracting youths in modern agriculture, but it has not reached the targeted farmers, stakeholders said.According to the Agriculture Development Office, VDCs in Duhun and Marma area of the district are at high risk of food crisis.  As food grains production is decreasing in the district annually, it can invite a serious crisis in the future, and therefore, there is a need of effective implementation of the programmes that attract people in modern agriculture. –Krishi Weekly
