Second mushroom festival begins

Kathmandu, June 20: The second mushroom festival has begun here today. Different species of mushrooms have been cultivated for a long time but it has not been promoted as expected as an advance mushroom cultivation system.

The festival organized at Chandragiri Municipality-17, Balambhu, has witnessed the participation of mushroom farmers and others. On the occasion, they have said that developing the vegetable crop in an advanced way is the need of the hour.

The festival is organized with an objective to promoting the mushroom market as production of the quality mushroom was a challenging job due to lack of the modern technology for the production of mushroom and market expansion.

Officiating Secretary at the Ministry of the Agriculture Development Uday Chandra Thakur said the mushroom farming could contribute in the national economy to some extent if it was modernised and pledged to extend support from the government side.

Experts on mushroom Dr Baidhyanath Mahato said that study of quality seeds, researches and training on the mushroom farming should be continued by giving special attention to new technology.

On the occasion, the speakers stressed the need for development of the seasonal mushrooms including dung mushroom, oyster mushroom, shiitake mushroom and others. Likewise, the visitors and farmers were informed about the quality seeds of mushroom.
