Grant Rs 3 million to 157 youths

Ilam, Jan 9: The District Agriculture Development Office, Ilam has selected 157 youths aspiring to be self-employed under the Youth-focused Self-Employment Programme. The office is providing a grant of Rs 3 million for different income generating activities including fish-keeping, vegetable farming and bee-keeping so as to get unemployed youths into entrepreneurship. According to Crops Protection Officer Harsha Hang Rai, Rs 2.4 million would be offered to 60 unemployed youths at the rate of Rs 40,000 each, Rs 10,000 per ropani of land for pond construction to 33 youths and Rs 50,000 each to four youths under youth-focused fish-keeping and seeds to 40 youths for mushroom farming.

The office has provided 90 per cent grants to youths for bee-keeping and mushroom farming. The youths were selected after screening around 500 applications submitted by aspiring youths, said Senior Agriculture Development Officer Prakash Kumar Dangi.
