Agriculture and Water Resource Committee directs Agriculture Ministry to submit its progress report every month

Kathmandu, Dec 28:  The Agriculture and Water Resource Committee under the Legislature-Parliament has directed the Agriculture Ministry to submit its progress report in first week of every month.Today’s meeting of the Committee held at Singha Durbar issued the directive to the Ministry after concluding that the progress of the Ministry was not satisfactory.Similarly, the Committee urged the Ministry to share the second quarterly action plan and policy-level provisions within a week, said Committee Chair Gagan Thapa.On the occasion, lawmakers drew the attention of Agriculture Minister Hari Prasad Parajuli, saying physical and financial progress of the Ministry was not satisfactory even though Rs 5.66 billion budget was allocated for the first quarter of the current fiscal year. A total of Rs 23.28 billion has been allocated for the Ministry in the current fiscal year.

Though different government and other organisations are running different agro-related projects across the country, progress has not been achieved as per the expectation. Lawmakers suggested the Ministry to formulate practical and scientific plan immediately to involve the youths in agriculture and to minimize imports viewing the identity and need of the country.On the occasion, Minister Parajuli said that no planned initiative has been taken for the development of the agro sector in the country so far and expressed the belief that there would be positive change in days ahead.Stating that quantity of barren land is increasing gradually for lack of capable human resources and youths in the agro sector, he said arrangement of grant has been made to attract youths in agriculture. The Agriculture Minister said that the ministry has been preparing to bring a policy related to scientific land management, adding the ministry would take special initiatives to resolve problem seen in agro sector.
