Rabbis and foot-to-mouth cases up

Surunga (Jhapa), Sept 18: Jhapa district has witnessed an outbreak of rabbis and foot-to-mouth at the same time owing to inadequate public awareness. It has turned to be epidemic for the locals being ignorant to administer vaccination to cattle, according to the District Livestock Service Office. There are high risks of rabbis and foot-to-mouth outbreak in Lakahanpur, Topgachhi and Dharampur, the office sources said.

Though the vaccination campaign has been conducted in highly vulnerable area of foot-to-mouth in the bordering zone of Jhapa in every six months, the farmers often do not allow administering vaccination to their cattle, said Office-In-charge Mohan Dev Lekhak. The rabies is transmitted to human being through the bites of rabid animal including dog, cat, fox, wolf, bet and rat. -Krishi Weekly
