Long-term perspective plan on agriculture

Kathmandu, Sept 2: With an aim to make the country self-reliant on agriculture and engage the migrants in the same field, the government has forwarded a 20-year long-term agriculture perspective plan. The plan which is under discussion currently has planned to make the agriculture independent, sustainable, competitive and inclusive. The Ministry of Agricultural Development is preparing the plan to expedite the nation’s economic growth, promote living standards of farmers and ensure food and nutrition security to the people.

            As high as Rs 45 billion would be spent with support from the donors to implement the programmes and the donors are supposed to invest in the projects prepared by the Ministry designed in the perspective plan. The perspective plan has formed the agricultural development strategy coordination committee under the leadership of National Planning Commission Vice-chairman.

Similarly, agricultural development perspective plan implementation committee would be formed under the chair of Agricultural Development Minister while the existing structures would be continued.

            Joint-Secretary at the Ministry of Agricultural Development Dr Rajendra Adhikari said establishment of seeds bank has been proposed in the context of climate change and its impact on agriculture, extinction of traditional seeds and technology.
