Bhadrapur, Jan 12: A seminar on pesticides and environment has been conducted at Dhulabari of Jhapa district in a bid to raise awareness on environmental balance.The seminar was organized by the Environment Department of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment.The seminar was attended by media persons, farmers, pesticide sellers and women farmers’ group.
They were made aware that rate of pesticide use in Tarai was 12 percent while in hills 4.9 percent and in mountain 0.7 percent. The attendants were made aware on the effects of the pesticides on skin, respiratory system, food and water.The farmers were urged to opt organic farming, reasoning the insurance on crops was managed by the government.It was informed at the seminar that the government has managed 90 percent compensation under the insurance scheme if the crops perish during the organic farming.
