Modernization of agriculture for economic revolution stressed

Bhaktapur, June 29: CPN (UML) vice-chairman and central president of All Nepal Peasants Federation, Bamdev Gautam, has underscored modernization of the agriculture sector for economic revolution in the country.
Leader Gautam said this while addressing a rice plantation programme organized by the Federation’s Bhaktapur branch at Surya Binayak Municipality-9 marking the National Paddy Day, today.
“Nepal is predominantly an agricultural country and still rice plantation takes place in a traditional manner. This has to be reformed and modernized,” he stressed.
Federation general secretary Balaram Banskota said that the government should pay attention to providing irrigation facilities and managing modern technology to make the country self-sufficient in agriculture.
Municipality mayor Basudev Thapa, deputy mayor Juna Basnet and Ward Chair Upendra KC spoke of the need of promotion of agriculture for substitution of the import of agricultural produce, pledging support of the municipality to that end.
On the occasion, a cultural programme featuring singing and dancing was also organized on the occasion besides planting rice seedlings in the field.
