Ministry of Agriculture to grant 10 metric tonnes paddy seeds

Lalitpur, May 24: The Ministry of Agriculture Development has decided to donate 10 metric tonnes of paddy seeds to quake victims keeping in view of the loss caused in agro-sector due to April 25 earthquake and aftershocks. Likewise, the Ministry has also initiated process to collect seeds of vegetable, food grains and other support materials from the Offices concerned, said Communication Officer Hari Prasad Pandit.

According to the Ministry, the agro-sector including the livestock farming suffered loss of around Rs 94.5 million due to the recent quake and aftershocks in the country. Around 100 ropani of arable land is eroded causing the damage of Rs 3.5 million in the agriculture sector while the building of offices at the Agriculture Service and Livestock Center incurred a loss of Rs 8.1 million, Pandit added. Similarly, 1,323 metric tonnes of the foodstuffs in stock was damaged which resulted in a loss of Rs 29.1 million.
